A heart can break in many ways—loss, betrayal, compounded trauma, or even time pulling two souls apart. “The Broken Heart” pulls from the concept of Kintsugi, emphasizing the breaks and repairs as part of the object's history, rather than attempting to hide them. It celebrates the benefits of imperfection and resilience, finding value in fractures that make us stronger.

The painting symbolizes my own pursuits to find love and connection where I was left broken, with the feeling I would never be whole, fixed, or repaired. In my efforts for restoration, I had to call back the pieces of my heart that had been stolen from me or that I had given to others who did not have the best intentions.

The blue color used in of the heart
symbolizes love, affection, loyalty, trust, and friendship. These are the major components found in community and connection that are essential in the fusing together of what was once left in pieces. I found a lot of my healing process involved communicating with others about my struggles and learning to ask for what I needed.
